Returns, Refunds & Digital Products Policy

Last updated: September 2026

At The Modern Steward, we want you to be happy with your purchase. This policy explains how returns, refunds and digital products are handled.

Nothing in this policy affects your statutory rights as a consumer under UK law.

1. Physical Books & Journals

If you purchase a physical book or journal from The Modern Steward online, you may request a return in accordance with your legal cancellation rights.

Returned books and journals must be:

  • Unused and in resalable condition.
  • Free from writing, highlighting, drawing, marking or other personalisation.
  • Free from stains, tears, significant creasing or other damage.
  • Returned with all original components and packaging where applicable.

Because our books and journals are designed to be written in, a book that has been written in, marked, highlighted or otherwise used will not normally be accepted as a change-of-mind return.

This does not affect your statutory rights where the product is faulty, damaged on arrival, not as described or otherwise does not meet the requirements of UK consumer law.

Customers are responsible for taking reasonable care of an item while it is in their possession.

2. How to Request a Return

To request a return, please contact The Modern Steward within the applicable cancellation or return period and provide to :tms.modernsteward@gmail.com

  • Your order number.
  • The name used to place the order.
  • The reason for the return, where applicable.
  • Photographs if the item has arrived damaged or appears to be faulty.

Once your return has been approved, you will be provided with instructions for returning the item.

Items should be returned securely packaged to help prevent damage during transit.

3. Refunds

Where you are legally entitled to a refund, refunds will be processed using the original payment method.

For eligible online cancellations, refunds will be made in accordance with applicable UK consumer law.

If an item has been used or damaged beyond what would reasonably be necessary to inspect it, any reduction in the refund will only be made where permitted by law.

4. Damaged or Faulty Books

If your book or journal arrives damaged, defective or otherwise does not conform to the description provided, please contact us as soon as possible with your order details and photographs of the issue.

We will work with you to provide the appropriate remedy in accordance with your consumer rights, which may include a replacement, repair where applicable, price reduction or refund.

5. Excel Templates & Digital Products

Excel templates sold by The Modern Steward are digital products and are delivered electronically.

Because digital products can be downloaded and accessed immediately, please carefully review the product description, screenshots and included features before purchasing.

Where you request immediate access to a digital download and acknowledge that you wish to receive the product immediately, you may lose your statutory 14-day cancellation right once the download or access begins, where permitted by law.

Digital products cannot be returned in the same way as physical products.

However, this does not remove your legal rights where the digital product is faulty, does not match its description, is not fit for its intended purpose, or otherwise does not conform to your statutory rights.

6. Excel Template Issues

If you experience a technical problem with an Excel template, please contact The Modern Steward and explain the issue.

Where appropriate, we may provide:

  • Assistance with accessing or using the template.
  • A corrected version of the template.
  • A replacement download.
  • Another appropriate remedy required by law.

Please note that differences in personal Excel settings, software versions, devices or user preferences do not necessarily mean that the template is defective. We will assess reported issues individually.

7. Accidental Purchases & Change of Mind

Please review your order carefully before purchasing.

For physical products, applicable statutory cancellation rights will apply to online purchases.

For digital products, cancellation rights may be affected once immediate access or downloading has begun where the customer has expressly agreed to this and acknowledged the effect on their cancellation rights.

8. Non-Transferable Digital Products

Excel templates purchased from The Modern Steward are for the purchaser's personal use unless otherwise stated.

You must not:

  • Resell the template.
  • Share the download with other people.
  • Upload the template to websites, groups or file-sharing platforms.
  • Redistribute, reproduce or commercially exploit the template.
  • Claim the template or its contents as your own.

Purchasing a template gives you a licence to use it; it does not transfer ownership of the underlying intellectual property.

9. Contact
